Safari Information

Best Time for Safaris

The dry season (June to October) is generally considered the best time for wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources and vegetation is less dense. However, the green season (November to May) offers lush landscapes and fewer tourists.

Each season offers different advantages:

  • Dry Season (Jun-Oct): Excellent wildlife viewing, less mosquitoes, cooler temperatures
  • Green Season (Nov-May): Lush scenery, newborn animals, bird watching, lower rates

What to Pack

Proper packing is essential for a comfortable safari experience. Here are some essentials to bring:

  • Lightweight, neutral-colored clothing (avoid bright colors and blue)
  • Long-sleeved shirts and pants for sun and insect protection
  • Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
  • Insect repellent and basic first aid kit
  • Binoculars and camera with extra batteries

Lisa Martinez

United States

"We opted for the 4-day Selous safari and it was the highlight of our Tanzania trip. The boat safari on the Rufiji River was a unique experience, and we saw hippos, crocodiles, and countless birds. The walking safari gave us a different perspective on the ecosystem. Everything was well-organized and the staff were professional and friendly."

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get from Zanzibar to the safari destinations?

We arrange transportation from Zanzibar to the mainland via flight or ferry, depending on your preference and budget. For Mikumi and Selous, you'll typically fly to Dar es Salaam and then travel by road or small aircraft to the parks. We handle all logistics to ensure a smooth journey.

Are the safaris suitable for children?

Most of our safari packages are suitable for children aged 6 and above. Some activities, like walking safaris, may have age restrictions for safety reasons. We can customize itineraries to accommodate families with young children, including shorter game drives and child-friendly accommodations.

What is the difference between a national park and a game reserve?

National parks typically have stricter conservation rules and only allow photographic tourism. Game reserves may permit regulated hunting in designated areas (though we only offer photographic safaris). Game reserves often allow a wider range of activities, including walking safaris and night drives, which may be restricted in national parks.

What is the cancellation policy for safaris?

Due to the complex logistics involved, safari bookings typically require a 30% non-refundable deposit. Cancellations made 60+ days before departure receive a full refund minus the deposit. Cancellations 30-59 days before departure receive a 50% refund. Cancellations less than 30 days before departure are non-refundable. We strongly recommend travel insurance.
